Drawing for these blocks in our Block Lotto program will be on Monday, September 8th. It will be done at our 2:00 pacific time Zoom meeting. See our Blog page for photos of the blocks submitted by Members. Click Here This month we are again using the Quarter Star pattern, only changing the fabric color placement to create a Sunflower. The pattern and video for the basic block are here for you to use. If you are going to submit a block for the monthly drawing, you only need to mail in a Quarter Star block (not 4 of them). The colors should be any shades of yellow, green and brown and placed in the order you see in the photos. Ann will also be donating her 4 samples pictured above to the winner. The drawing will be held at our 2:00 Pacific Time Zoom meeting on September 8th.
This star and the 4 quarters to make it is one of my favorite blocks. I often play with the color and block placement to make something new. Included here is written instructions and a video by Carol Thelen. If you submit a block lotto to Ann for the drawing, you only need to submit a quarter of the star. Make it light and dark contrast for the two fabrics. Have fun and the member that wins will be able to start a fun scrappy quilt. PS - Use the instructions for the 12-inch finished size, and the quarter of the star will be 6-1/2 by 6 1/2 unfinished. Each week I will post photos in our newsletter of some of my quilts using this block. Below is the video showing making the Quarter Star, and written instructions she mentions in the video.

The free pattern and instructional video are from Fat Quarter Shop, and online fabric store popular with many of our members. The pattern works well for Layer Cake 10-inch squares, as well as yardage or scraps. Have fun!
The friendship block is easy to make, and has a rich history for quilters. The video below shows how to make it, as well as telling the interesting history of the block. Cutting for one block - 12.5" unfinished/ 12" finished

Cute block, and if you make more blocks it has an interesting secondary pattern. Best of all, you can use your scraps to make this block. There is a YouTube video for this, if you want to watch it Click Here to go to it. If you want to play our Block Lotto game, and possibly win all blocks submitted, follow the instructions at the top of this page to mail a block to Ann. Each member gets only one chance in the drawing. Drawing for this block will be on Monday, February 10th. Download or print the pattern here:
