Turn a TV Tray into an Ironing Board

I am currently researching ideas for a portable ironing station.  I don't really like traditional ironing boards for quilting, but prefer a big flat surface. I like that this project can be easily moved around, and even folded up to store. I have a wood TV tray table that is not being used, so this one looks interesting to me.  What do you think?

I’ve been using a wooden TV table as a portable ironing station for several years, and I take it to retreats and workshops. It works perfectly. I make mine a little differently from the way Misty does it, though.

I covered mine with three layers: cotton batting next to the wood, Insulbrite next, and topped it all with a layer of cotton quilting fabric. These were stacked with the table upside down on top of the layers and the fabric face down on the bottom of the stack. Using a staple gun, we (my husband helped) wrapped the layers around to the underside of the tabletop and fastened it snuggly. I

I haven’t tried Misty’s method, but I like mine because I don’t have to worry about the top layer coming loose or slipping. I have replaced the fabric a couple of times over the years. There was an incident with a melted chocolate chip ..,
Anyway, it was easy enough to pry up the old staples and replace the old layers and fabric with new.
If you have access to a staple gun, I recommend this method.
Good luck!
