Porch Quilt for Christmas? Starry Charms

11/12/2023

I found this fun adaptation of a free quilt pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop.  Using less blocks and laying it out as a table runner or porch quilt, while using some Christmas fabric is all it takes.  The blocks are easy to construct and use 5 inch squares so scraps, charm packs or layer cakes would work well.  Happy sewing!
Ann

PS- If you don't have an appropriate porch to hang quilts, think about an entry way or even a door in your home.
PSS - I made a porch quilt using 3 blocks, with a sashing in between the 3 blocks.

Member to Member - Free Halloween Themes!

9/3/2023

I had so much fun sharing the August Quilt Along, that I decided to share a small project in September too!  Since Halloween is coming up, I wanted to share a group of free patterns from my research. The free patterns below are my starting point.  I will share more information as I work on my project this month. Wonder which ones I will use. What would you do?

This is so simple, and so effective. I can imagine stitching, applique, or even fabric paint using the template below. Great as a quilt block, pillow, or anything else you can imagine.

August Quilt-A-Long, Rose Porch Quilt

I am making a "porch quilt" using a free block pattern from Moda Fabrics.  I thought I would share my project as I made it.  So something new for our group!
Week 1 will be to make the flower portion of the block. I am including videos for those who are visual learners, and some written instructions as well.
By the way, I am going to make 3 of these blocks to make my Porch Quilt, but you can use it for other things, including a pillow, table runner, placemats, bag, and a quilt of any size.
Thanks,
Ann Nolen

Mary Ann's Storage Box Challenge (free pattern)

2/28/2023

As many of us know, one thing leads to another.  In this case Mary Ann challenged Chris to pick a storage box of fabric from his stash and make a quilt from the fabric, just what he found in that box.  She would do the same.

Then to add a little more fun to it, Ann volunteered to share a "free pattern" that both of them would have to make.  Of course, why not let everyone in on the fun? Ann is revealing the pattern to both of them on Monday, Jan 24th.  Join in now, or catch up later.

Challenge Rules:  (Honor System, Mary Ann won't be checking!!!)
  • Fabrics from 1 storage bin/container/bag/drawer/tote/whatever... No other fabric can be added.
  • Use this pattern to make it.  Feel free to change the quilt size.
  • Share a photo of your finish quilt with us, please. We would love to see it. Please email it to [email protected]

This pattern was offered free  by Free Spirit Fabrics.  It is called "Sunshine in the Garden" and designed by Sue Penn Designs to compliment her fabric collection you see in the photo. It will be fun to see what the "storage box" finished quilts look like.

It is lap size of 44" x 60" and rated for a Confident Beginner quilter.

Click on "Download File" to get the pattern.  Problems? Ann can email it to members. [email protected]
